Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP)
Liquid Crystal Polymers (LCPs) are a class of wholly aromatic polyester polymers that provide high performance properties.
In particular, they are highly inert chemically and are fire resistant. The structure of LCPs consists of densely packed fibrous polymer “chains” that provide self-reinforcement. Liquid Crystal Polymers can be processed on conventional injection moulding equipment with excellent replication of mould details. Liquid Crystal Polymers have outstanding mechanical properties at high temperatures. They have excellent chemical resistance, inherent flame retardantcy and good weather ability.
Liquid Crystal Polymers are exceptionally inert. They resist stress cracking in the presence of most chemicals at elevated temperatures, including aromatic or halogenated hydrocarbons, strong acids, bases, ketones, and other aggressive industrial substances. Hydrolytic stability in boiling water is excellent. Environments that deteriorate the polymers are high-temperature steam, concentrated sulphuric acid, and boiling caustic materials.
Liquid Crystal Polymers can easily be processed by Injection Moulding, and ProPlastix can advise on all your specific applications.
