Polypropylene PP
Polypropylene is one of those most versatile polymers available with applications, both as a plastic and as a fibre, in virtually all of the plastics end-use markets.
It is widely used in injection moulding.
It its natural form it is semi-rigid and translucent and has good chemical resistance, it is tough, has good fatigue resistance, and has integral hinge properties. It also has good heat resistance).
Three types of polypropylene are available, each with particular properties and specifications.
Homopolymers – A General Purpose Grade that can be used in a variety of different applications.
Block Copolymers, incorporating ethylene. These have much improved impact resistance, particularly at lower temperatures. Their toughness can be further enhanced by the addition of impact modifiers in the compounding process.
Random copolymers – Such polymers containing ethylene and are used where a lower melting point, more flexibility and enhanced clarity are needed.
Polypropylene has probably the widest application of all moulded thermoplastics, particularly by Injection Moulding. ProPlastix can advise on all your specific applications.
